Mario mario mario. Never have I fallen in love with a skincare brand THIS quickly or seen results this fast. I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS BRAND. I WANT EVERYTHING. And slowly but steadily, I will accumulate it all.
Just call me Mrs Badescu (please don’t tell my fiancé).
If y’all aren’t following @ashxesss – Actually, just stop what you’re doing right now and go follow her. Shes flipping hilarious, and her insta stories make me cry with laughter. Literally cry.
And as for @ywxbeauty, their page is honestly so pretty! They do the most gorgeous flatlays, and tbh I’ve never found anyone else love PLL as much as I do until I met Yasmin. Follow!
Ok back to the blogposttttttt here we go-
Mario Badescu has always been one of those brands that I had heard loads about but never really payed much attention to. I remember reading lots about the drying lotion which is definitely one of their most popular products (but we’ll get into that in a minute) and thinking hmmm its probably overhyped.
Kylie Jenner and so many other celebrities ‘raved’ about the products and in my head I wasn’t really sold, until one day I was on the search for a new hydrating toner in travel size to take on holiday with me.
I came across a discounted travel duo on the beauty bay website back in the christmas sales that had a mini rosewater (I’m OBSESSED with the scent of roses) and the drying lotion in it so I bought it as a sort of an impulse purchase- not realising that this was about to come one of my absolute favourite skincare brands.
The products (You can purchase Mario Badescu products from Beauty Bay):
The Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Propylene Glycol, Glycolic Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, CI 42090 (Blue 1), CI 45410 (Red 28), CI 19140 (Yellow 5)
Ok, when I say this is INCREDIBLE- I mean it like 6176837293x over. Pixi glow tonic who? SERIOUSLY. Pixi glow tonic had been a love of mine for a good year or so – using it on and off I fell in love with how smooth it made the texture of my skin and how glowy I was looking. That was until I tried this. The beautiful Zara from @Zbeauty158 on Instagram told me to buy this, and whenever she recommends any skincare to me I trust her blindly (go follow her, her insta stories give me life). She told me I would love this, so I took the plunge and purchased it from Beauty Bay and boy oh boy was she right.
This mario badescu glycolic acid toner BLOWS my pixi glow out the frikin window. Its beyond words. Its everything I could ever need in an acid toner and more. Yes I’m getting passionate again, but honestly – there. are. no. words. I really do like it that much.
Why is it so good sophie? Whats so great about it? You’re all probably wondering why is she getting gassed over a damn toner, get a life. But I’ll tell you why its become my fav.
This stuff WORKS. And it works fast. I used this on my skin at night and when I woke up my skin was SO much clearer and radiant. Its aimed for pigmentation and smoothing out the skin and it really really does do that.
My skin can be quite sensitive so I tend to not use acids every day but this acid, ugh- it just feels so gentle. The pixi glow kind of stings my skin (which is normal due to the acidic content), but this doesn’t. It feels refreshing and so nice, like I literally am head over heels in love with it!
I’ve been getting a lot of compliments both on Instagram and in real life on how much brighter and clearer my skin is looking, and this product 100% is the reason why. I genuinely adore it. I adore it so much that I gave it the Holy Grail Award (and something has to be INCREDIBLE FANTASTIC AMAZING AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN in order to be given that award- so best believe I am obsessed).
The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
Ingredients: Isopropyl Alcohol, Aqua (Water, Eau), Calamine, Camphor, Sulfur, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc, Glycerin, Salicylic Acid.
This is defo one of the most famous and ‘cult’ products from Mario Badescu, and if you’ve ever heard of the brand then chances are you’ve heard of this product. Known to be a Kardashian favourite, this pink lotion is aimed to zap away whiteheads overnight and reduce blemishes and break-outs. Its made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid.
My thoughts? Its GOOD. Really GOOD. But its not a miracle worker, you have to be a little patient with it.
How do I use it?
Firstly, every ounce of being inside you is going to want to shake the bottle. I don’t know why, but the fact that theres like candyfloss coloured creamy residue situated at the bottom of the glass bottle makes me just wanna shake the EFF out of the bottle but DON’T DO IT. You’re not meant to shake it. Control yo self.
Simply grab a cotton bud, dip it right down to the bottom of the jar till the pink magic goodness is all over it and then apply it directly to your blemishe. Just remember that everytime you dip into the bottle, you are using a clean cotton bud otherwise you will just infect that whole bottle. Keep it clean guys. Each dip, a clean dip.
How does it perform?
Whiteheads – Works VERY well. I’m not talking about a huge whitehead, but those small little whiteheads that can pop up around your forehead area, this made them disappear overnight. I woke up with no whitehead, and smooth skin.
Them RED angry spots (Think of that ‘Anger’ character from the Disney film ‘Inside Out’ in blemish form – yeah. One of those ones) – It took me about 3-4 days to fully heal one of these red angry spots by applying the drying lotion every single night consistently.
One thing I absolutely love about the drying lotion is that it dries completely, like a face mask which makes it super comfortable for overnight. Some overnight treatments can be sticky and I find that super annoying because my hair literally gets stuck to my face and all sorts (its not a pretty sight), but theres no issue with this drying lotion.
If I had to be picky and give it a negative, it would be the smell. I hate it. Otherwise its a massive thumbs up.
I bought this expecting miracles and deep down I was praying that it would make massive red angry spots disappear overnight. It didn’t make them disappear guys, but it reduced them A LOT.
The Mario Badescu Drying Cream
Ingredients: Aqua, Lubrajel, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Citrus Medica (Lemon Fruit) Extract, Collodial Sulfur, Ichthammol, Polysorbate-80, Propylene Glycol, Zinc Oxide (CI77947), Titanium Dioxide (CI77891)
If you’ve got those irritating under the surface bumps that aren’t quite blemishes but they prevent your skin from being smooth – THIS IS FOR YOU. Enriched with aloe, this drying cream is specifically aimed for under the surface spots (whereas the drying lotion is for actually blemishes) and its sooooo good at smoothing those bumps out and reducing them!
I know this is called a cream, but don’t mistake this for like an actual cream. Its not a moisturiser, and isnt applied that way either. You only need a teeny bit. The best thing about it is that it can actually be worn under makeup. You literally apply a little to your blemish, let it dry and then apply your makeup over it. It is designed to help conceal as well as heal blemishes.
The way I prefer to use it however is overnight. A little of this goes a LONG LONG way, so even though the tub looks kinda small, it will last you ages. Just pop a clean (CLEAN.) cotton bud into it and apply it on your affected areas and leave it to work its magic overnight. I particularly love this on my forehead, where I am super prone to those under the surface bumps.
If you’ve got combination/ oily skin- this will be PERF for you.
And last but definitely not least, The Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe Herbs And Rosewater.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Rosa Canina Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Leaf Extract, Fucus Vesiculosus Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Parfum (Fragrance), Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Citronellol, Geraniol, CI 17200 (Red 33), CI 42090 (Blue 1)
Bruh. Ok so you all know how much I love roses right? If you don’t then you aint loyal. But seriously jokes aside let me try and be serious for a second….THIS. IS. EVERYTHING.
Theres a reason why I named this blogpost the skincare brand that instantly made me fall in love. I am head over heels in love with everything, but especially this.
I am a massive fan of facial sprays. I find them so refreshing I love how I can use them pre-makeup, post-makeup, during the day and as a hydrating step in my skincare routine. To be honest theres not really a time you can’t use them. I find them so versatile, and although it may seem silly or gimmicky to be spritzing water like stuff all over your face randomly throughout the day- BUT trust a sister on this, its the best.
This particular facial spray is a blend of herbal extracts and rosewater (it smells like fresh roses) and gives my skin just the extra hydration it needs. Its perfect for spritzing over you skin after makeup. Literally I spray this on after I’ve powdered and instantly the beyonce voice comes in my head and I’m like ‘You flawless’. It makes you look fresh and dewy, but just the right kind of dewy. Not wet dog kind of dewy.
I love using it after my acid tone too which dries out the skin- this gives me that extra moisture that I’m always looking for. It wakes me up, it energises me. It makes me feel like a brand new woman (too far? lmao). Ok I’m exaggerating a tad, but it really is GOOD. And if you’re using it with your skincare routine, it will make your skin feel so softtttttt.
I actually keep a travel on in my handbag at all times, and if my skin is feeling a little meh or I’m feeling a little meh- this makes me feel like beyonce again. Lets just call this the beyonce spray now.
You all need the Beyonce spray in your life. If you’ve got a face, you need this. END OF. (Hafsa, if you’re reading this..Hey).
Trust me and jump on the mario badescu hype. You won’t regret it.
